Ron was the premier track competitor for Oak Park High School and Cornell College from 1953-1960. He transitioned into coaching both at South Dakota and Minnesota and subsequently joined Niles East. Ron was a beloved Physical Education and Health teacher for 34 years while coaching at our Niles West until 1998. In addition to being head boys track coach, assistant boys cross country coach and assistant girls track coach at Niles West he also spent 3 years in service to the District 69 Board of Education.

Even after retiring, Ron continues to volunteer his time as an assistant and helps organize invitationals for the boy’s track team. He also became a registered official and started many area meets during 1999-2014. He has been a volunteer official in the triple jump and served for many years as the head official at the last 42 state boy’s meets and the last 17 girl’s meets. He received the 1st annual officials award presented by the State Track and Field Coaches Association in 2001. In 2006, Ron was an honorary referee at the Boy’s State meet.

Ron and his wife are the parents of three Niles West graduates, all of whom consistently earned All-Conference awards in Cross Country, Track and Field and Gymnastics in the 1980’s.

Ron and his family are the quintessential track enthusiasts. A vacation means attending a National or International Track Meet. They have had the pleasure of attending 4 Olympics and 5 World meets.
