Ray Borucki

Baseball
Induction Year: 2015

Ray Borucki has been a fixture in the Illinois baseball community for decades.

In 1975, Ray earned first team all-conference in the Central Suburban League for his outstanding contributions to the Niles West Baseball team. During the 1975 season, he was named team MVP and pitched a no hitter in the state semi-final shut out over Springfield. His performance down state, as well as all season, earned him a spot on the 1975 all tournament team and named an IHSA All-State baseball player.

Ray attended Oakton Community College in 1976-77 after his graduation from Niles West and was drafted by Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies. Alongside teammate Ryne Sandberg, Bob Dernier, and many more Phillies greats, Ray participated in the Phillies AA-AAA divisions. Ray was then traded to the Detroit Tigers in 1984 where he spent a year in their minor league division.

Since then, Ray has been devoted to giving back to baseball. He continues to be a successful part of the Mundelein youth/travel baseball program and has been an assistant varsity baseball coach for Mundelein High School for the past 10 years. With Ray’s help as hitting coach and outfield/pitching specialist, Mundelein earned the conference, regional and sectional championships. Ray also works at Slammers indoor training facility, where he trains several high school, collegiate and professional players throughout the year. Ray also enjoys watching the progress of his son Ryan, a left handed pitcher with the Toronto Blue Jays who has worked his way up and is part of team travel through the United States.
