George came to Niles Township District 219 in 1964 after graduating from the University of Illinois. For the first two years of his college career, he attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier in Chicago. He played baseball there and also in Champaign. During his senior year, the team won the Big Ten Baseball Championship.

George's first teaching assignment was at Niles West where he taught Driver Education. He also coached freshmen baseball and was the athletic trainer for the fall and winter sports. He also taught some health classes.

In 1972, George moved up to the varsity level and had the privilege of coaching with Jim Phipps. That was the year that Niles West won the State Baseball Championship. In 1973, he became the head coach of the varsity baseball team at Niles East. After Niles East closed in 1980, George returned to Niles West.

Shortly after his return, he became the head coach of the varsity baseball team at West and held that position until 1991. During that time, the teams won three conference championships. George was also in charge of the State Summer Baseball League for three years. In addition to coaching baseball, he also coached the golf team for a number of years until his retirement in 1999.

In 1998, George was honored to be inducted into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. Any accomplishments that were achieved during his tenure at Niles West were due to the talented players that were in the program and the skill and knowledge of the assistant coaches.

After 34 years of being a part of District 219, George retire from teaching and coaching in 1999.
